BluBla

Keep your phone habits in check, with a little help from a friend.

BluBla helps you set a daily time limit on a specific app and put a small personal stake on staying under it.

If you stay under your limit, nothing happens. If you break it, your chosen stakeholder is notified. That's the whole idea — a little bit of social weight to help you stick to what you said you'd do.

BluBla does not move, collect, or transfer money. Any stake is tracked as a number in the app; settlement happens directly between you and your stakeholder, off-platform. BluBla itself is a subscription-based accountability tool.

How it works

  1. Pick an app and set a daily time limit.
  2. Pick a small stake amount (e.g. $1–$20).
  3. Name a friend as your stakeholder, or run solo.
  4. BluBla tracks your usage via Apple's Screen Time API.
  5. You and your stakeholder get notified if you break the limit.

SMS Program

BluBla's automated (A2P) SMS messages are sent only to a user's nominated stakeholder, and only after that stakeholder personally opts in on the web. BluBla's own account holders never receive SMS — they get in-app push notifications. After opting in, a stakeholder may receive:

  1. A weekly recap — a short summary of how the user did against their limit that week (at most once per week).
  2. A daily breach alert — on any day the user exceeds their limit (at most once per day).
  3. A loosen heads-up — a notice if the user raises their own limit (only when that happens).

The initial invitation is not an automated message: it is a person-to-person text the user sends from their own phone via iOS Messages, containing a confirmation link. It is outside the scope of this A2P program.

Who receives messages

Only one stakeholder per user — a person the user personally named in the app and who opted in themselves by tapping "Yes, text me" on the confirmation web page. Account holders themselves do not receive SMS.

Opt-in (web-link double opt-in)

The user sends a personal invitation text from their own phone containing a link to confirm.blubla.app. The stakeholder opens that link, sees the disclosures, and must press an explicit "Yes, text me" button to consent — nothing is recorded on page load. No automated SMS is sent until that button is pressed. The opt-in experience is documented at blubla.app/sms-optin.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies — typically a weekly recap, plus an alert on any day the limit is exceeded (at most once per day).
